Gunungkidul, 20 January 2025 – IDEAKSI YAKKUM Emergency Unit held a Peer Learning/Exchange of Learning Between Local Innovators event in Nganjir Hamlet, Karangsari Village, Kapanewon Semin, Gunungkidul. This meeting was an initiative to support the sustainability of local innovators in IDEAKSI 2.0.

This event was attended by various IDEAKSI 2.0 innovator groups, including Karang Taruna Prima Gadung, Bonhargo, KWT Melati, KWT Wanita Karya, FPRB Murtigading, KSB Merapi Rescue Umbulharjo, Lumbung Pangan Artha Mandiri, Kelompok Tani Ngudi Makmur, Petani Milenial, SHG Unggul JiwaSHG Luhur JiwaPPDMS, and Teater Inklusi.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by representatives of the local government, namely Mr. Dukuh, and representatives of the Karangsari village administration.

"Hopefully, the innovation of Bambu Jawa Jahit Bumi can have a positive impact on Nganjir Hamlet, Kalurahan and Kapanewon, as well as the Special Region of Yogyakarta,"  said the Hamlet Head in his speech.

Tempat pertemuan ini merupakan lokasi dari inovasi Bambu Jawa Jahit Bumi yang dikembangkan oleh kelompok innovator Karang Taruna Prima Gadung.

Introducing Bamboo Java Jahit Bumi

One of the problems in Nganjir Hamlet is the threat of landslides, which is compounded by an increase in the population of long-tailed macaques that have severely disrupted the community's agricultural land, reducing the local community's crop production. Therefore, Karang Taruna Prima Gadung, a group of young people, created an interesting innovation called "Bambu Jawa Jahit Bumi" (Javanese Bamboo Sewing the Earth), which is part of the Trilogy of Earth Fences, an innovation consisting of three (3) solutions:

  1. Ring 1: Planting bamboo to protect settlements from landslides.
  2. Ring 2: Replacing teak trees with high economic value crops such as coffee and avocado.
  3. Ring 3: Creation of protected forests as habitats for long-tailed macaques to reduce conflicts with farmers.

It is hoped that with this innovation, the community in Nganjir Hamlet will not only preserve the ecosystem, but also increase their income through more productive agricultural yields.

Discussion and Exchange of Learning

After witnessing the learning process from Karang Taruna Prima Gadung regarding the innovation of Bambu Jawa Jahit Bumi, the IDEAKSI innovator participants then formed groups according to the discussion themes, namely:

  • Waste Management (Bonhargo, KWT Melati, KWT Wanita Karya)
  • Disaster Response (FPRB Murtigading, KSB Merapi Rescue Umbulharjo, Artha Mandiri Food Barn)
  • Adapting to Climate Change in Agriculture (Ngudi Makmur Farmers Group, Karang Taruna Prima Gadung, Millennial Farmers, SHG Unggul Jiwo)
  • Inclusive Disaster Management (SHG Luhur Jiwo, PPDMS, Inclusive Theatre)

This division is based on the categorisation of disaster threats by each group of local innovators. To enrich knowledge and learning, local innovators also presented their achievements, obstacles, future collaborations, and, of course, the support they expect from the village government in raising public awareness of disaster risk reduction.

Sustainability and Collaboration

After exchanging lessons learned, local innovators also provided evaluations and feedback at the end of the activity and highlighted the importance of synergy between innovator groups and local governments to ensure the sustainability of innovation in areas such as adapting innovations, providing funding support, and so on.

The importance of collaboration is also demonstrated by groups such as PPDMS and Teater Inklusi, which are planning arts-based disaster mitigation education, while KWT Melati and Petani Milenial will collaborate on organic waste management for sustainable agriculture.

The event concluded with the hope that the local initiatives developed would continue and be expanded to other regions facing similar challenges. nbsp;"We hope that the innovations we have developed in Nganjir can inspire other regions to manage disaster risks in an inclusive and sustainable manner," said Joko Susilo, representative of Karang Taruna Prima Gadung.
