Commemoration of National Disaster Preparedness Day 2025 in Yogyakarta: Building a

The peak event of the 2025 National Disaster Preparedness Day (HKBN) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) was held on April 30, 2025 at the main building of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Campus 4, Banguntapan. Carrying the theme "Ready to Survive: Digdaya Ngadhepi Bancono", this event aimed to raise public awareness, vigilance, and preparedness in facing various potential disaster threats. As a region located in a disaster-prone area, DIY Province requires collaborative efforts to strengthen community resilience. The HKBN 2025 activities engaged stakeholders from across the pentahelix approach to disaster management—namely the government, academia, private sector, the community, and the media—including the active participation of YAKKUM Emergency Unit (YEU).

Exhibition of Community Resilience Action

In this activity, YEU participated in Mini Exhibition that showcased various community innovations in increasing resilience in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. YEU's booth featured the MONTOV (ODHIV Health Monitoring) application from Pita Merah Jogja which is one of the CLIP-IDEAKSI innovator groups. Furthermore, there was also an interactive game that can be played by visitors such as Putpatcamat (Putar Tepat Cari Selamat) from the CLIP-IDEAKSI innovator group, PPDMS (Mitra Sejahtera Empowerment Center). This game aimed to educate children with disabilities. Last but not least, YEU also showcased a model of climate-adaptive agriculture featuring a mist irrigation system developed by Rukun Santoso Farmer Group.

The innovations exhibited at the YEU booth aimed to advocate for disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation through educational games. These innovations were designed to show that disaster preparedness can be introduced in a creative and engaging way. In addition, these resilience efforts highlighted that disaster preparedness is not only necessary during a disaster, but also serves as an anticipatory action to help minimize the greater impacts of future disasters.

Shared Learning for Communities in Disaster Preparedness

During the HKBN event, YEU took part in several thematic discussion classes, namely the Response Class, Agile Class, Resilient Class, and Empowered Class. These classes are interactive learning spaces that discuss strategic topics, such as inclusive humanitarian responses to climate change adaptation, accelerating the implementation of Disaster Safe Education Units (Satuan Pendidikan Aman Bencana or SPAB) in Yogyakarta as a concrete step towards resilience in the education sector, protecting and involving at-risk groups in disaster management efforts, and the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration within communities.

YEU-assisted community groups were also involved as resource persons in these classes, demonstrating that disaster preparedness can be initiated at the grassroots level. This highlights the critical role of communities as the first responders in any disaster situation.

To conclude the series of events, several of YEU’s community partners—namely Unggul Jiwa Self-Help Group, Lingkar Association, and FKWA (Winongo Asri Communication Forum)—received awards during the peak of HKBN 2025. These awards serve as a form of appreciation for their dedication and commitment to advancing inclusive disaster risk reduction innovations. Through approaches rooted in local strengths and the active involvement of at-risk groups, these partners exemplify how joint efforts can significantly strengthen community resilience in the face of various disaster threats.
