Enhancing Preparedness Capacity: IDEAKSI 2.0 in Inclusive Disaster Risk Management and Assessment Workshop

Yogyakarta - IDEAKSI 2.0 YAKKUM Emergency Unit has entered the development phase. The IDEAKSI 2.0 period is the phase to further strengthen and increase the resilience of the innovator group to disaster. IDEAKSI 2.0 has conducted “Disaster Management Training and Inclusive Disaster Risk Assessment Workshop'' to 15 innovators in the IDEAKSI 2.0 phase. The training aims to increase the knowledge on disaster management and the inclusive disaster policies in respective areas where the innovators are situated. The innovators are involved in efforts to strengthen the capacity in disaster management, risk, hazards, capacity, vulnerability and disaster management cycle, as well as conducting a review and updating data for innovator groups that have already conducted a disaster risk assessment.

The training was designed as a space for discussions amongst innovators, communities and government representatives with a total of 13 participants. This is to ensure attention during the training, to get a direct picture on the condition of the area and to explore capacities and vulnerabilities. Participants were given the freedom to explore and to present the results of each discussion.

The PVCA in Girikarto Village in Panggang District of Gunungkidul was held from 16 May to 6 June 2024. It was a new experience for fellow innovators who had never conducted a disaster risk assessment. At-risk groups, such as people with disabilities and older people got new experiences on disaster management in more detail, for instance the provision of grab bags is one of the preparedness efforts that can be directly done by the participants.

In the development phase of the IDEAKSI 2.0, it is expected that there will be capacity development through gender training, inclusion, PVCA and Disaster Risk Assessment. It can become a reference for making scale-up proposals and can continue to be carried out in daily life as a form of preparedness capacity in facing disaster.
