SUNDA STRAIT TSUNAMI

HIGHLIGHTS

  • On Saturday (22 Dec 2018) at 21:27 a.m. a tsunami occurred in the Sunda Strait. The Geological Agency and the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency said that the tsunami was triggered by an underwater landslide due to the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau on Saturday night. Waves as high as 0.3 to 0.9 meters hit the settlements on the west coast of Banten Province and south of Lampung.
  • The regional head has set an emergency response period in 4 regions, namely Pandeglang Regency (12/22/2018 to 1/1/2019), Serang (12/22/2018 until 1/4/2019), South Lampung (12/23/2018 - 12/29/2018), and Banten Province (12/27/2018 to 1/9/2018). Emergency response period in South Lampung Distric is extended for 2 weeks, from January 6, 2019 to January 19, 2019.
  • PVMBG - ESDM Gelology Agency has upgraded the status of Gunung Anak Krakatau from Waspada (Level II) to Alert (Level III), with dangerous zones extended from 2 kilometers to 5 kilometers from the summit of Mount Anak Krakatau crater starting from 27/12/2018 at 06.00 WIB .
  • Data on December 27, 2018 mentions in Rajabasa Village, 2 people died, 36 were injured and 240 were displaced. Way Muli Village, 31 people died, 110 were injured and 905 were displaced. While in Kunjir Village 23 people died, 261 were injured and 205 people were displaced. Survivors from Way Muli and Kunjir took refuge in neighboring villages such as Sukaraja and Cugung Villages (Rajabasa Sub-District) and Totoharjo Village (Bakauheni Sub-District).
